Students enrolled in the Unarmed Security D Course will master fundamental security principles such as physical security, access control, terrorism awareness, and emergency protocols. Report writing, interviewing procedures, crime and accident prevention techniques are all skills that should be developed. All training materials will be in accordance with F.S. 493 and the legal standards 5N-1. The Certificate of Completion for successfully completing the Unarmed Security D Course will be submitted along with the Class “D” Security License Application to the Division of Licensing. Graduating students who seek for and acquire the Class “D” Security Officer License may work as an unarmed security officer for a licensed security service. To be able to apply for the Statewide Firearms License, students interested in becoming armed security officers must pass the D Course. Armed Security Training is a 28-hour course that supplements the G license.

To Become An Unarmed Security Officer In The State of Florida

The Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services

Division of Licensing Requires:

• Each applicant must complete a (40) forty-hour course from a certified licensed security school facility. Training must include all core curriculum and compliance under Florida Statutes 493 and legal guidelines 5N-1.
• The applicant must be 18 years or older.
• The applicant cannot have prior disqualifying criminal history.
• The applicant must provide a full set of fingerprints & passport size photo.
• The applicant must legally be able to work in the U.S.
• The applicant must sign a personal inquiry waiver to allow the department to conduct background checks. (Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services state fees are excluded from the course)

The Security Class “D” License Course will teach students the basic principles of security including physical security, access control, terrorism awareness and emergency procedures. When You Finish The Course

Following the completion of the courses, a Certificate of Completion will be issued for successfully completing this course. Applications must be filed with the Division of Licensing of the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. A hard copy license costs $45 and a background check costs $52.75 from the Division of Licensing. Once submitted, the student will obtain their Class “D” Temporary Security License, allowing them to work as a licensed security officer in the state of Florida the same day. Applications will be reviewed within 60–90 days of receipt, and a preliminary license (in hard copy) will be issued and mailed to the applicant. Once issued the Class “D” License will be valid for 2 years.
